Abstract: In order to improve the safety and efficiency while mining in coal seams with rock-burst tendency, the protective mining mechanism with pressure relief and shock absorption effect has been studied. Based on the analog simulation theory, the experiment on mining protective seam has been carried out according to the geological and mining conditions in No.12 Mining District of Jining No.3 Coal Mine. The results show that protective mining can weaken the stress concentration and energy accumulation of protected coal seam. The goaf of protective coal seam can form a kind of loosened-broken- weak structure, which can absorb seismic source energy of roof so that the down coal seam is protected. The collapsed coal seam will swell to the goaf of protective coal seam so that the protective area is formed. After the caving and compacting of protective coal seam, the deformation and break of protected coal seam is slowed down. The results of this study will provide theoretical basis and practical value for reasonable design and safety mining of coal seams with rock burst propensity.
