Abstract: This paper has presented a study on the effect of surrounding rock mechanical parameters on roadway deformation and failure with the method of orthogonal numerical simulation experiment. Re- searchers have selected 5 factors including internal friction angle, cohesion, Poisson’s ratio, tensile strength and Young’s modulus. The experiment results have shown that, according to the effect on roadway deformation, the sequence of these 5 factors is cohesion>tensile strength>Young’s modulus> internal friction angle>Poisson’s ratio; In terms of the importance to roadway failure, the order is cohe- sion>internal friction angle>Young’s modulus>Poisson’s ratio>tensile strength. This experiment results have well reflected the consequences of theoretical analysis, which has indicated that this method is highly effective for the study on the deformation and failure of roadways.
